The Adult Choir is open to anyone high school age or above. The music chosen is of a variety of styles, ranging from classical and traditional to contemporary, often in SAB or SATB parts. The choir sings at the Sunday, 10:30am Mass, twice a month, as well as during Holy Week, Christmas Eve, some holy days of obligation and funerals. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings, 6:30 – 8:30pm (September through May) in the church.
The Contemporary Chori is open to anyone high school age or above. The choir sings on the first Sunday of each month at the 10:30am Mass, as well as for Easter Sunday. The Contemporary Choir draws from a wide array of music, with an emphasis more on the contemporary style. Rehearsal times are the last 2 Thursdays of each month, from 6:30 – 7:30pm.
The Youth Choir is open to children, 2rd – 8th grade. The choir sings on the second Sunday of each month at the 10:30am Mass time, as well as for Christmas and First Communion liturgies. Flutists and other instrumentalists are also welcome to join. Rehearsal times are the first Monday of each month, 6:30 – 7:30pm (September – May).
Our singing at Mass can be considered “a foretaste of the heavenly liturgy in which the choirs of angels and saints unite in one unending song of love and praise.” (Pope Benedict XVI, 2010). Here at Saint Francis Xavier, the goal of the Music Ministry is to provide uplifting music that elevates the Holy Mass, focuses our attention on the Holy Eucharist and draws us into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
The Saint Francis Xavier Music Ministry is filled with wonderful people who desire to share their love for singing and music by putting it to use in service to their church. Most members find that they also glean personal benefits in the way of spiritual enrichment, growth in musical skills, a sense of purpose, and camaraderie with other musicians.
Is God calling you to serve in your parish music ministry? It does not require as much time as you may think and the rewards are great! We warmly welcome singers – from the professionally trained to those who have little to no experience, but a desire to learn – to join us.
We are currently looking for new members in the Adult Choir, Contemporary Choir, and Youth Choir, as well as for more cantors and instrumentalists. So, if you love to sing and/or play an instrument, we invite you to join the music ministry here at Saint Francis Xavier.
