Faith Formation Program Volunteers

What is a catechist?

A catechist helps children come to know, to love, and to serve Jesus Christ and His Church.

Who can be a catechist?

Catechists can be male, female, old, young, married, single, students, retired, or working.
We equip our volunteers to teach the faith, but they must already have a love for Jesus Christ,
the Catholic Church, and children.
In addition, a catechist should:
    • be a baptized and confirmed Catholic
    • go to Mass every Sunday & on Holy Days of Obligation
    • desire to grow in their faith through daily prayer and reading the Bible
    • accept the authority of the Church and never teach something that contradicts what the Church teaches
    • be at a stage in their life when they can make a year-long commitment

What support will I receive as a Catechist?

    • Weekly lesson plans with suggested classroom activities
    • Training on core theological topics at catechist meetings
    • Support of faith formation parish staff
    • Nursery care for children 0-3 on Sunday morning
