Speaking the Truth in Love

Meets on Tuesdays from 7-8:30pm in the Church conference rooms.

Topics

September 24: Absolute Truth & Moral Relativism

Are claims about morality matters of opinion or do moral truths exist that are true in all circumstances?

October 8: Truth & Tolerance

Is it possible to love someone if you condemn their actions or lifestyle?

How does Jesus define love?  What does it mean to love my neighbor as myself?

October 22: Suffering and the Moral Life

Why do Catholics say suffering can be “redemptive”?  How should I respond to my own suffering

and the suffering of others?

November 12: The Indissolubility of Marriage

Why does the Catholic Church believe that death alone dissolves a valid marriage?

What’s the difference between an annulment and a divorce?

What about people who are divorced and then remarry outside the Church?

Break for Advent Bible Study on Tuesday Evenings

January 14: Homosexuality

What does the Catholic Church teach about LGBTQ issues?

January 28: Transgenderism

Is gender a societal construct?  Can someone change their gender?

What does the Catholic Church say to someone who persistently identifies as the opposite sex?

February 11: An Ethic of Life

As Catholics, we believe life is sacred, and therefore must be protected, from conception to natural death.

How does this apply to abortion, the death penalty, and euthanasia?

February 25: Contraception

Why are Catholics against the use of artificial birth control?

What does the Church and the Bible teach about God’s plan for human sexuality?

Break for Lenten Bible Study on Tuesday Evenings

April 14: Women & the Church

Why are only men ordained priests?  What role do women play in the Church?

April 28: The Church & the Sexual Abuse Crisis

For decades, priests all over the world sexually abused minors, and the Church covered it up.

Where do we go from here?  How can we call the Church holy when it has such corrupt members?

Newcomers are always welcome!  Come to whatever classes interest you.
