Adorning our altar are 4 new candle holders in memory of Catherine Meier and two vintage candle holders and a crucifix that were damaged when the church burned in 1972 and now returned to their proper condition and use for worship within St. Francis Xavier Church. The monstrance was spared any damage, because Howard Padrutt and his son Steve had the presence of mind to rescue the Blessed Sacrament and monstrance from the fire. Because of the historical connection to these two important church appointments, I asked the Padrutt family if they would like to memorialize their deceased family members and honor Berdina for her 95th birthday by restoring the monstrance to its former glory as well as purchasing a sanctuary lamp, which is in production. They enthusiastically agreed. Thank you to Berdina’s family and other families who have helped bring our parish’s heritage forward to enhance our worship experience.
