“Educational sessions on these and related matters, including a ‘safe environment’ program, are to be part of the continuing formation of … lay employees and volunteers.”
These two statements are taken from the Diocese of Madison Policy Regarding Abuse of Minors, Sexual Misconduct, and Sexual Harassment (effective November 30, 2003). In compliance with this policy and the spirit it embodies, and in an effort to establish safe environments for children and young people, the Diocese of Madison is using the Protecting God’s Children program developed by VIRTUS.
Protecting God’s Children for Adults is an awareness and educational session which all members of parish and diocesan staff (clergy and laity) and volunteers are required to attend. This Diocesan policy is mandatory and we are required to begin using it in our programs starting with the 2004-05 school year.
Please plan to attend a session, so that you can volunteer with our children. If you have any questions about this policy or the educational sessions, do not hesitate to contact the office.
